Attorney Biography:
Anthony Sodono III concentrates his practice in the areas of bankruptcy, corporate restructuring, debtor/creditor rights, and commercial litigation. He represents, in particular, Chapter 11 and 7 trustees. He serves as an assignee under deeds of assignment for the benefit of creditors and has represented federal and state court receivers.
Mr. Sodono was a former Assistant United States Trustee for the United States Department of Justice. The Office of the United States Trustee is the governmental arm that oversees the federal bankruptcy system. As Assistant United States Trustee, Mr. Sodono supervised every large Chapter 11 case for the State of New Jersey from 1999 through 2006. Mr. Sodono also served as an Internal Revenue Service Agent.
Mr. Sodono is a frequent lecturer for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education and for the Bankruptcy Law Foundation’s Financial Literacy Project; also, he is a contributing author of the ICLE Bankruptcy Skills Series Textbook and the New Jersey Bankruptcy Manual, for which he wrote the chapter relating to the United States Department of Justice, Office of the United States Trustee.
From 1992 through 1999, Mr. Sodono was engaged in private practice with the law firm of Cole, Schotz, Meisel, Forman and Leonard, P.A.; he concentrated his practice in the areas of corporate reorganizations, debtor/creditor rights, bankruptcy, and commercial litigation and represented Chapter 11 and 7 trustees, debtors, landlords, creditors’ committees, lenders, and receivers.
In 1990-91, Mr. Sodono served as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Daniel J. Moore, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of New Jersey.
Mr. Sodono was awarded an AV rating, recognizing very high to preeminent legal ability and professionalism, by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell, the leading directory of legal professionals.
Mr. Sodono also served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.
In 2007, Mr. Sodono was named Pro Bono Attorney of the Year by Volunteer Lawyers for Justice. He is also a certified foreclosure mediator.
In 2012, Mr. Sodono was named a “New Jersey Super Lawyer” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
